History is made this season: Everest sees its first no-oxygen ski descent, and Manaslu shatters summit records.
Everest Ski Descent
On September 22, Polish ski mountaineer Andrzej Bargiel completed the first full ski descent from Everest’s summit without supplemental oxygen.Supported by 16 Sherpas from Seven Summits Treks, he skied from the top all the way to Base Camp.
Bargiel has a long list of high-altitude ski descents: Shishapangma, Manaslu, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I & II, and K2.He’s the first skier to descend all four Karakoram 8,000ers.
Bargiel’s Achievements
Manaslu (8,163 m) saw a record 371 foreign climber permits this autumn.By September 25, 357 climbers had summited, including 170 foreigners and 187 Sherpas.
