On August 25, 2025, renowned alpinists Alexander Huber and Simon Gietl completed the first redpoint ascent of the new route “Apassionata” on Heiligkreuzkofel in the Dolomites.
The route spans seven pitches with difficulties reaching 9+, featuring compact, sometimes overhanging rock. The line was climbed entirely in a traditional style, established from the ground up using only mobile protection, with no fixed bolts.
Simon Gietl commented, “I had been thinking about this line for a long time. It seemed both challenging and elegant. Climbing it with Alexander was ideal.” Both climbers appreciated the support and encouragement from Heli and Pauli, who congratulated them on completing this long-held vision.
“Apassionata” is more than a new route, it symbolizes a respectful, tradition-conscious approach to climbing, connecting generations through shared values and a passion for pure style.
The route begins via the Gabloner Route, requires triple abseils, and leads through a wide ledge and a light traverse to the main line. Climbers will need 14 quickdraws and a set of Totem cams for a safe ascent.
“Apassionata” represents a significant addition to alpine climbing tradition and is a must for ambitious climbers who value classic climbing ethics and style.
