New Multi-Pitch Route Opened in Chilean Patagonia
Chilean climbers Raimundo De Andraca and Fernanda Carabias have opened a new long multi-pitch route on La Zaranda, a striking granite wall located roughly 30 kilometers north of Villa Manihuales in Chilean Patagonia.
The route, named Sin obstáculos no hay camino (“No obstacles, no path”), rises 600 meters over 17 pitches and offers a diverse and sustained line of climbing. According to the first ascensionists, the route links multiple crack systems through a combination of fissures of varying widths, chimneys, off-width sections, and technical face climbing.

Difficulty begins around 5+, with several sustained pitches in the 5.11 and 5.12 range. Two pitches reach 5.13, although both can be climbed with A1 aid, making the route accessible to a wider range of strong climbers.
De Andraca and Carabias spent several days cleaning the line and equipping it for safety, ensuring solid protection along the route. One of La Zaranda’s standout features is its accessibility: the wall lies close to the Carretera Austral (Route 7), with the base only 250 meters from the road, a walk of about 15 minutes.
Despite its quality granite and roadside location, La Zaranda remains largely undeveloped. According to PlanetMountain, Sin obstáculos no hay camino is only the third recorded route on the formation.
With its length, variety, and relatively easy access, the new route is expected to draw increased attention to La Zaranda and encourage further development in this lesser-known corner of Chilean Patagonia.
