Day-by-Day Itinerary

01

Truso Valley Hike & Arrival in Kazbegi

Our journey begins with a scenic drive along the Georgian Military Highway, with stops at Ananuri fortress and the famous Jvari Pass viewpoint. In the afternoon, we hike into the hauntingly beautiful Truso Valley — a once-inhabited gorge filled with mineral springs and ruins. This Kazbegi hiking tour kicks off with a peaceful warm-up in one of the region’s hidden gems. Evening arrival in Stepantsminda (Kazbegi), dinner, and guesthouse stay.
02

Gergeti Glacier Trek

After breakfast, a jeep ride brings us to the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church, where our trek to the glacier begins. This high-altitude hike climbs into the Kazbegi massif, offering breathtaking views of the 5033-meter Mount Kazbek and surrounding peaks. The Gergeti glacier hike is a full-day adventure into alpine terrain. Return to Kazbegi for another night.
03

Crossing the Chaukhi Pass to Roshka

We transfer to Juta village and begin our ascent beneath the towering Chaukhi massif — often called the “Georgian Dolomites.” The most demanding day of your 4-day Chaukhi Pass trek features a steep climb to the 3341m saddle, marking your entry into the Khevsureti trekking region. After a short rest by the striking Abudelauri Lakes, we descend to the village of Roshka or nearby Korsha. A highlight for anyone seeking a guided trek from Juta to Roshka.
04

Ridge Walk in Khevsureti & Return to Tbilisi

We drive deeper into Khevsureti trekking country, toward Datvisjvari Pass (2689m). From here, we hike a panoramic ridgeline, reaching ~3000m with views across the Greater Caucasus. This final short hike brings closure to an intense journey. Afterward, we descend by jeep and share a hearty lunch in a mountain village en route to Tbilisi — concluding your unforgettable Kazbegi to Khevsureti trek.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is the Kazbegi to Khevsureti trek?

This trek is rated moderate to challenging, depending on your fitness level and experience. Expect daily hikes of 12–20 km, with significant elevation gains (up to 1300m) and high-altitude terrain, especially on the Chaukhi Pass crossing. Prior trekking experience is strongly recommended.

The ideal time to hike Chaukhi Pass is between mid-June and late September, when the snow has melted and the trails are accessible. Outside this window, the route may be impassable due to snow and unstable weather conditions.

The only way to reach Roshka from Juta is on foot — via a 17+ km alpine trail that crosses the 3341m Chaukhi Pass and descends past the Abudelauri Lakes. It’s a full-day hike and one of the most scenic routes in the Caucasus. Jeep support ends at Juta.

Mt. Chaukhi lies in the eastern Greater Caucasus, near Juta village in the Kazbegi region. Known as the “Georgian Dolomites” for its dramatic spires, the massif borders the Khevi and Khevsureti regions and marks the high point of the Chaukhi Pass trek.

Juta village sits at around 2150 meters above sea level. It’s one of the highest inhabited settlements in Georgia and the starting point for many alpine treks, including the Juta to Roshka route via Chaukhi Pass.

From Tbilisi, you’ll first travel 3–4 hours to Stepantsminda (Kazbegi) via the Georgian Military Highway. From there, a 4WD vehicle is needed for the 30-minute off-road climb to Juta. The total trip takes around 4–5 hours.

Ushguli, at 2,200m, is Europe’s highest inhabited village, set beneath Mount Shkhara on this Svaneti trekking tour.

You’ll need solid hiking boots, trekking poles, layers for changing weather, and a daypack. Since the Chaukhi Pass reaches over 3300m, wind and temperature shifts can be extreme. A gear checklist is included upon booking.

It’s possible but not recommended unless you’re experienced with alpine navigation. The route includes steep sections, remote terrain, and weather exposure. Guided support ensures safety, trail knowledge, and local logistics.

The Abudelauri Lakes sit on the far side of Chaukhi Pass in Khevsureti, and there are no facilities until you reach Roshka village. This is one of the most remote and scenic parts of the trek — ideal for those seeking solitude and raw beauty.

This compact 4-day adventure combines some of Georgia’s most iconic alpine routes — from the Gergeti Glacier and Truso Valley to the high Chaukhi Pass and remote Abudelauri Lakes. It’s a rare trek that links two mountain regions in one seamless journey.
