Day-by-Day Itinerary

01

From Tbilisi to Omalo

Your guide will meet you in Tbilisi for an early transfer to Alvani village, where we switch to 4WD vehicles for the thrilling climb over Abano Pass Georgia (2,900m) — one of the highest drivable roads in the Caucasus. After descending into Omalo Tusheti, we settle into a guesthouse and explore the historic Keselo Fortress overlooking the valley. This is the starting point of your unforgettable guided trek from Omalo to Shatili.
02

Traverse of the Pirikita Range

After breakfast, a short transfer brings us to Ghele Meadow — the traditional gathering site of Tusheti’s mountain clans. From here, we climb to the Pirikita Ridge, which divides Tusheti’s main valleys. On clear days, enjoy sweeping views of peaks like Diklo, Komito, and Dano. The ridge walk ends with a steep descent through Nakaicho Pass to the remote village of Parma. Overnight in Girevi guesthouse.
03

From Girevi to Kvakhidi Meadows

We begin with a visit to Girevi — the last inhabited village in this valley — and check in at the local border post. The trail climbs deeper into the wild, passing the abandoned village of Chontio. Expect sweeping alpine meadows, narrow gorges, and untouched mountain terrain. Tonight, we camp beneath the stars at Kvakhidi Meadows (2,600m) — a key milestone on this camping trek Tusheti Georgia adventure.
04

Crossing the Atsunta Pass

This is the heart of the expedition — the famed Atsunta Pass trek. After several river crossings, the final push leads you up alpine slopes and scree toward the 3,430m pass. This is one of the most breathtaking spots in Georgia, with views spanning both Tusheti and Khevsureti. We descend to the Khidotani Ridge, with a traverse offering panoramas toward Mt. Tebulo — the highest peak in Tusheti. Tonight, we camp again in wild solitude.
05

From Khidotani Ridge to Shatili

A short hike brings us to the end of the ridge and a steep descent into the Khonischala Valley. We visit the fortress ruins of Mutso — perched dramatically on a cliff — and then transfer to the mysterious Anatori Necropolis, also known as the “Houses of the Dead.” The day ends in Shatili Georgia, an ancient stone village-fortress surrounded by dramatic cliffs. Dinner and overnight in a guesthouse.
06

Return to Tbilisi

The return journey winds through the wilds of Upper Khevsureti, past the ghost villages of Guro and Kistani. We cross the 2,600m Datvisjvari Pass and descend along the Aragvi Valley, eventually reaching the Zhinvali Reservoir and the road back to Tbilisi. End of the Tusheti to Khevsureti trek via Atsunta, but the beginning of many more.
